Summer Invitational Institute: June 14-July 9, 2010 The four week workshop is held at Purdue University Calumet campus in Hammond. Teachers will exchange methods of instruction among themselves as well as work with experts in the field and professional writers. Teachers will also write during the workshop. The sessions are expected to cover such topics as evaluating student writing, writing process, writing in the disciplines, collaboration, preparing for ISTEP +, connecting standards to lessons, and writers’ workshop. Participants will be expected to attend an orientation session. Teachers who complete the Institute will become Teacher/Consultants and will qualify to conduct workshops and act as resource persons for the NWIWP. Participants will receive 6 graduate credits at PUC, 3 in English and 3 in Education. Tuition will be waived and stipends will be provided for books for those participants whose schools/school systems are participating in the NWIWP/PUC/school partnership. Partial scholarships are available for teachers whose schools/school systems do not participate. Advanced Institute June 22, 2010 The Advanced Institute sessions provide an ongoing learning experience for NWIWP T/Cs. The sessions range from using picture books to rubrics to technology.
